INDONESIA AND THE NETHERLANDS COOPERATE TO DEVELOP THE MODEL OF VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE


The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands work together to develop a model of vocational education in agriculture. The cooperation between the two countries is marked by the technical arrangement between M. Bakrun as the Director of Vocational High School (SMK), Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Ditjen Dikdasmen Kemendikbud) and Ferdinand Lahnstein as Minister Plenipotentiary / Deputy Head Of Mission Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Thursday (8/3/2018).

"As an initial stage, the pilot program will be implemented in SMK Negeri 2 Subang West Java and SMK Negeri 5 Jember East Java for three years.The pilot results will be replicated to other SMK in agriculture in Indonesia," said Bakhrun, at the office of the Directorate of Vocational Education, Kemendikbud , Jakarta.

Cooperation activities of these two countries include 1). Strengthening cooperation between government institutions, schools and industry through joint work program and teaching factory development; 2). Development of curriculum, learning modules, and industry-compatible competency standards; 3). Training for teachers and education personnel in industry, softskill training, such as communication skills and social skills, teacher training programs and education personnel in the Netherlands, and learning activities in SMK by instructors from industry; 4). Development and rehabilitation of SMK infrastructure covering laboratory and teaching factory; and 5). Establishment of management team as program implementer.

Several stakeholders involved in this cooperation program include the Ministry of Agriculture, Presidential Staff Office, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Nuffic NESO Indonesia, Bogor Agricultural University, Wageningen University, Industrial Partners (from hatchery to retail).

Previously, in November 2016, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on the Development of Revitalization Models of Agriculture SMK in Indonesia. Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in November 2016, experts from both countries have conducted a need assessment to identify the most appropriate program to revitalize SMK in agriculture.

"The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Royal Netherlands government believe that development in the field of vocational training will have a direct impact on improving the quality of human resources and the welfare of the people in both countries," said the Director of Vocational Education.
